UPDF Arrested Two Armed Congo Rebels in Kanungu Crossing to Uganda - Epuziki.com

Two members of the Mai Mai Kabido, a Congolese armed group, were apprehended in Kanungu District after crossing into Uganda. The UPDF 307 brigade arrested the militants, who were found in possession of an AK-47 rifle.

Brigade commander Lt Col Robert Nahamya confirmed the arrest, stating that plans were underway to transfer the case to the UPDF 2nd division headquarters in Mbarara city for further handling.

In Kyeshero Central Cell, Kyeshero Sub County, Kanungu District, the two Congolese rebels, Innocent Vitwale (20) and Niyo Kibuga (21), were arrested on Wednesday morning.

They had crossed the porous Kashenyi border, carrying 28 ammunitions. The civilians reported the incident to UPDF forces, who reacted and apprehended them.

Lt Col Nahamya clarified that the detainees are not affiliated with the ADF rebel group, contrary to earlier social media reports.

The arrested individuals claimed to be avoiding military operations against other rebel groups in DR Congo, seeking safety in Uganda.

Lt Col Nahamya reassured the public, urging them to continue normal activities, emphasizing that the UPDF is present to secure borders and protect citizens.
